Brenda Pogge to Run for Republican Nomination in 96th District Delegate Race

James City County, VA - Brenda Pogge is a veteran conservative Republican, actively involved in local politics since 1993. Prior to 1993, she spent eight years working with the 9th District Circuit Court in Yorktown as a foster parent to teens in crisis. She and her husband of over 31 years, Roger Pogge, are longtime residents of the Virginia Peninsula, where they raised their five children and are now enjoying their three grandchildren.

Pogge is no stranger to politics. She is probably best known for encouraging Jo Ann Davis to run for this same seat ten years ago and was greatly involved in her campaigns. She was instrumental in encouraging Jo Ann Davis to seek the congressional seat being vacated by retiring Congressman Herb Bateman. She went on to assist Melanie Rapp in her successful bid for the 96th District seat, a position Rapp has served in honorably.

Pogge has been a volunteer to many conservative campaigns, most notably in 2002 as a leader of the kNOw campaign, the Hampton Roads opposition to the sales tax and unelected regional authority referendum. Under the leadership of the Pogges, the referendum was defeated in Hampton Roads by a margin of over 60%, and in the 96th District by close to 70%.

Pogge took a hiatus from the political scene for a few years in order to take in her aging mother who required around the clock care. Her mother passed away in the spring of 2006.

In the summer of 2006, Brenda Pogge joined her husband in Richmond, working with the Family Foundation Action to lead the statewide Marriage Amendment campaign, va4marriage.org. That constitutional amendment was also overwhelming passed by Virginia voters.

“I believe in a citizen legislature. I formed my political ideology during the Reagan Revolution of the 1980s. I am a Ronald Reagan Conservative. I am pro-life, pro-family, pro-business and I believe in the rights of citizens to own and keep their property. I will keep Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment, not to speak ill of another Republican.

I have an affinity with the people of the 96th District, I live here, I have worked here, I know the people of the 96th District and they know me. If elected, I pledge to always be accessible, I will always listen to every side, and I pledge to do my best to work alongside my colleagues to do what is in the very best interest of the citizens of the 96th District and the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am passionate about that.

Today I am announcing my intention to run for the Republican nomination in the Historic Triangle of Virginia, where our liberties were won, which is now known as the 96th District of the Virginia House of Delegates.”
